Is Your Hotel Room Safe

The UK is known to be a safe place with a low crime rate, but it is always better to be safe rather than to be sorry. So, when making room reservations at a hotel, make sure that your hotel room is a safe room.

How do you know if your safety is guaranteed at the hotel? You can always ask the reservations officer, or if it is possible, do an ocular inspection of the hotel before your actual stay therein.

Is the doorman always at his post and is the front desk always manned? The hotel’s doorman and the people at the reception are your first defence against intruders coming into your hotel room. They should always be where they are supposed to be. Also, they should not give your room number to just about anyone.

Take note of the door locks on the rooms. Are they the old-fashioned metal locks or the modern electronic ones? Rooms fitted with modern electronic locks are safer because it means that the hotel changes their security code every time a guest checks out. They are also tamper-free.

Are the hallways, corridors and exterior walkways well-lit, especially at night? If so, you can be sure that you will not encounter stalkers or any suspicious elements lurking in the dark.

Does the hotel have a safety deposit box or a vault in each room, or at least at the front desk? A safety deposit box is important for storing your valuables, such as your laptop.

As a precaution, you can also make it a point to request for a room located at the upper floors of the hotel. Never accept a room at the ground floor. In addition, be careful of how you handle your hotel room key. Do not flash it about or leave it lying about carelessly.
